The UWI Actuarial Society exists to help students
desirous of pursuing a career in the field of actuarial science. The Society helps
to facilitate communication between students and prospective employers, as well as to assist students in understanding the
actuarial profession. It will also seek to encourage the sitting of professional examination while at UWI. It has the more
abstract aim of engendering leadership ability in its members.
The Actuarial Science program at the University of the West Indies is offered by the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences and run by the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. The program which started in mid-nineties has grown to facilitate
a well balanced delivery of Actuarial Science at the Undergraduate Level.
While most of the courses are taught by the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science there are compulsory out-of-faculty courses to be taken which are offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Students entering the program are some of the most talented entering the University. Students
taking the Actuarial Science option normally are required to take more courses, and arguably more difficult courses than most
other students at the University.
